The palaces of the Pantheon, the future in which Horus and his brothers are forgotten and the Emperor is venerated as a god, and a vision of the Emperor's allowing the Primarchs to be taken from Terra.

It's not super clear if it's an out of body experience or simply a journey in the mind, but Erebus appears to Horus in the guise of his old friend Sejanus and together they visit many scenes. While in the Lodge, Erebus converses with the priestess who has taught him the magic he needs and enters Horus'. Abaddon and Horus Aximand decide to remove Horus to the Lodge, while Tarik and Loken are investigating Temba's corpse - this drives the Mournival apart forever.
Unbeknownst to the Luna Wolves, the Lodge was a locus for Chaos cults: but they were aware that if Horus were to be healed, it would be through the use of forbidden sorcery. Erebus' cunning manipulation of Horus caused him to attack the traitorous Temba on Davin's Moon and ensured that Temba had the powerful Athame and wounded Horus with it.īeyond the aid of the Legion's Apothecarium, Erebus - close at hand - suggested the use of the nearby Serpent Lodge. He traveled with the Luna Wolves during their unfortunate meeting with the Interex, guided - we can only assume - by the Ruinous Powers to the Kinebrach Athame, a xenos weapon with the power to slay a Primarch (and, on the side, greater daemons with a single strike). He supported their pilgrimage to Cadia and gained much power - and as First Chaplain, we can assume he was instrumental in sending out Chaplains to every Legion to help assist Librarians transition back to normal battlefield roles, as well as establish the warrior lodges. He offered his own blade to Lorgar after the razing of Monarchia, demanding that if the Primarch had truly lost faith, then Erebus no longer wished to live. His skills on the battlefield were held in wide regard, and he was apparently well-known in the practice cages and gladiatorial pits - he fights Lucius for seventeen minutes and fifty nine seconds aboard the Vengeful Spirit, for example, and routinely duelled the World Eaters. People like to say "fuck Erebus!" because he ruined everything, if you believe the ends of the Great Crusade were ever going to lead to a better Humanity.Įrebus was the First Chaplain of the Word Bearers, a warrior of incredible skill and aptitude who was considered Lorgar's herald to the other Legions. Lorgar caused the Horus Heresy, and caused the Great Crusade to fail, but Erebus was the one to cause him to fall, first. Arrangements were made for Horus to get hurt, and "miraculously" be near some lodge that could heal him he was corrupted there.
Once he was with them, they started to plot the downfall of others. The problem is, his people saw this as an opportunity, and reminded him of an "older faith", one that were gods, and would accept his devotion they took advantage of Lorgar's (and most of us, really) need to believe in something greater than himself, something "divine", and toppled him into the Ruinous Powers. When he found the Emperor, Lorgar found someone he could see as a god, but the Emperor said no, and then shamed Lorgar, and his entire legion. When Lorgar was young, and growing up on a Chaos-tainted planet, Erebus and KP were loyal to the Chaos Gods, and taught him "religion". Oversimplified, but basically, things were going fine, except for Erebus, and Kor Phaeron.
